BJORBATH
MYVATN, ICELAND
Reflecting nature undefiled, my two classmates and I crafted Bjorbath, a space to awaken poetic memories of time spent in northern Iceland.
A pausing space, a serene space, Bjorbath is a place to surrender to nourishing spa treatments. Surrounded by an ethereal landscape, grounded by raw craters to the north, and undulating mossy forms in Lake Myvatn, the spa draws in seekers of natural solace.
Terraces offer a glorious promontory of Lake Myvatn in all its humble glory. Glass bricks accent the cladding system, for an exterior sparkle. The same bricks, inside, flood the space with a kaleidoscope of colors from the Icelandic sun. Inward of the building, the humbly exquisite lounges transition guests to the array of simple and snug soaking spaces. Concrete sculpted beer tubs mimic the rustic fluidity of the craters. Informed by the hues of the mineral rich land, the unique treatment rooms work harmoniously to provide the ultimate immersive experience. A feature like no other, the tubs are supplied with beer from the downstairs brewery. After filling a glass while bathing, guests can continue to delight in the brewery before departing back into the Icelandic landscape.
